MIAMI SWIMWEEK 2019: Bikinis, Babes, & Backstage

Happy July! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve updated the blog. I wanted to hop on here and talk to you about the hottest week of the year….MIAMI SWIM WEEK. I’ve been attending Miami Swim Week since Mercedes Benz sponsored it years ago, through the Funkshion ownership phase and now Paraiso + Art Hearts Fashion programming. I am so happy to say I have now experienced swim week at every stage you could possibly experience it. I have been a VIP guest at multiple shows and even worked backstage with Urban Decay doing makeup on the bikini models, like Sofia Jamora. This year, however, has been the most special year of all. I finally walked my first Swim Week runway show for the beautiful and talented, Colombian designer – Liliana Montoya at the opening show for Miami Swim Week by Art Hearts Fashion on Thursday, July 11th.

Walking in Liliana’s show has been a dream of mine for 5 years. She was the first ever bikini designer whose show I saw at a Miami Swim week. Finally taking the risk of reaching out and going to the casting paid off! Experiencing swim week from the model’s perspective was totally different. Usually models know weeks, if not months in advance if they have plans to walk in swim week. However, I planned my trip back to Miami with 7 days until showtime. Here are some of my tips to quickly lean out and look more toned in the short time I had to prepare to walk down the runway:

  1. Drink lots of water to flush out the toxins
  2. Obviously cut out processed sugar, but most importantly cut out dairy and gluten as that can make your skin flare up and stomach bloated.
  3. Do NOT eat after 7:00pm.
    • This might be the hardest one if you go to sleep late, but I promise it pays off the most and helps you wake up with a flat tummy!
  4. Get a spray tan
    • Everyone looks better tan – PERIODT. Getting a nice tan makes your skin look glowy and healthy, not to mention accentuates your abs and blurs any little cellulite or stretch mark that you may be self conscious about. (If you aren’t self conscious then props to you and own that sh*t).

After walking in Liliana’s show, I was on cloud 9 the rest of the weekend. Looking at GORGEOUS pictures and video from the runway and running into people I knew all weekend with nothing but nice things to say about me walking in the show, really made me soak in and appreciate this moment. That Friday, I walked my second swim week show at the WeWork rooftop in Miami Beach for the Venezuelan designer, MJaen Swimwear. I was not nearly as nervous for this show, because all my jitters got used up the night before, but I was just as excited and grateful to walk in another swim week fashion show.

After my shows, I got to experience swim week like I usually do, as a guest, enjoying new designs from Agua Bendita, Ishine 365 x Yo Ventura, and of course, the Sports Illustrated SI Swimsuit Search show was incredible. The only complaint I have about swim week this year is that every show I was in and attended ran late. So, if swim week is in your plans for 2020, keep in mind it definitely runs on Miami time.
