Curbing Your Sweet Tooth: Desserts While Dieting

Healthy eating has always been a way of life for me. Don’t get me wrong though, I loveeeee me some comfort food, fried food, sugary food, you name it! So on days when I want to stay feeling healthy and good about my eating habits, but still want to enjoy something sweet, I turn to these “desserts.”

Rice Cake Topped with Peanut Butter, Banana and Cinnamon.

This is the perfect mid-day or nighttime snack, post workout meal or even breakfast. It definitely tricks you into thinking you are eating a crunchy, chewy, yummy dessert, while fueling your body with good fat from the PB, potassium and healthy sugars from the banana, and yummy taste with cinnamon (which also has natural fat burning properties).

*For extra sweetness, feel free to add a drizzle of honey.

Halo Top Ice Cream

Yes, you read that right. Ice Cream doesn’t have to be extremely fattening to still taste good. Halo Top is one of the few “low cal” ice creams that I actually like the taste of. They have a variety of flavors, including dairy-free options. Each pint is worth very few calories (depending on the flavor), meaning if you REALLY wanted something sweet, consuming the whole pint wouldn’t even be that bad. I, for one, like treating myself to only 2-3 tsps (not scoops) per day to curb my sweet tooth without the guilt.

*Pictured is the vanilla flavored Halo Top which is only 280 calories per pint. Check out more flavors here.

Guilt Free Apple Pie a la Mode

This is one of my favorite “healthy” desserts. It’s so quick and easy to make and tastes just like your favorite apple pie – minus all the breading and crust calories.

Step 1: Wash and cut up your apples into thinly sliced pieces.

Step 2: Heat/caramelize apples on a skillet (which can be prepped with your fave low-cal or dairy-free butter) until they turn to a brownish color. Then repeat on the other side. This step should also make the apple slices a “gooey-ish” consistency.

*Cinnamon to taste should be added to the apples while being heated on the skillet.

Step 3: Once apples are done, add your vanilla Halo Top Ice Cream on top & voila you’ve got your guilt-free Apple Pie a la Mode.

I love finding new healthy or low calorie desserts that are still super yummy, so I asked my followers on Instagram to let me know some of their favorites and here were some of their responses:

“I bake banana in honey and cinnamon! It’s my favorite when I’m craving sweets hard.” – @nataniapriscilla

“Enlighten Ice Cream (preferably chocolate chip cookie dough.” – @melanieh__

“I loveee Emmy’s Organic Coconut Cookies in vanilla been.” – @stenebee

“I always have a dark chocolate Dove for dessert! The Little Promises ones.” – @nickiguerra

Hope you enjoyed this blogpost! Remember, its a lifestyle not a diet. Making little changes like this can make all the difference when you want to be healthier.
