How I Landed My Dream Job in the Midst of a Pandemic

Two years ago, I remember feeling very lost. I had recently graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and started my online graduate certificate program of social media marketing. However, that year, I also finally accepted what my TRUE passions were: acting, makeup, and tv hosting. I just didn’t know how to make it all happen full time. I remember reading a book called “Ask and It Is Given” a few years back that talked about the power of your subconscious mind and manifesting the life you want to live. Before I bore you guys with technical terms, for anyone who has trouble reaching their goals or is feeling stuck, keep reading…..

In this book, Esther Hicks teaches us how to think about what we want vs what we don’t want. All those years of college I had been feeling anxious and unhappy with my degree choices. I was unfulfilled and needed something more. So, two years ago while I was living in Orange County, CA interning at a social media marketing company in Los Angeles (which seemed like the right choice given my educational background), my vibes were really low and I decided to go back to the key findings of this amazing book and begin to exercise my subconscious mind. I wrote a list of I AM affirmations not only on a personal level, but a career level. For example: “I am constantly booked as a tv beauty expert on my favorite shows.”

Positive affirmations create a light at the end of the tunnel for us. They help us see and feel exactly what it is we want to see, feel, accomplish, etc. Let me make it easier to grasp. If you are feeling depressed, instead of thinking “I’m so depressed right now,” try saying these affirmations: “I am loved. I am happy. I am attracting positive energy from those around me. I am a being of light.” If you hate your job, instead of dwelling on this fact, say “I am open to new opportunities to live out my passions. I am exactly where I need to be. I am _____(fill in the blank with your dream job/position)_____.”

The first item on my career affirmations list from 2018 was “I have my own segment on TV about beauty and entertainment.” Two years later, I landed my own tv segment completely dedicated to recreating makeup looks from the most iconic Hollywood Stars called “Quiero Ese Look” in the new show “Top de Estilo” on the global television network, Hola TV. How amazing is that?! I want to clarify a few things. First, I had already been on several tv show segments giving my makeup tips and tutorials, however no segment had ever been MINE; I was always a guest. I wanted my own segment where I was the host, in which I was the consistent face every week that people could look forward to learning from on television every week or day. Second, I didn’t even remember I wrote this affirmation down when I received the call about the new hosting opportunity until months later when I found the list. I was so focused on making those dreams come true, taking action, being consistent on social media with my beauty blogging, reaching out to tv producers to participate on their shows, practicing my Spanish, surrounding myself with people in this field and having faith that this would indeed come true- until it all fell into place this March of 2020.

Of course, in the midst of the pandemic, my new gig was not as glamorous as I thought it would be due to the fact that production had to be shut down for a few weeks, extra safety precautions had to be made (so there were barely any people at the studio), I had to take my own wardrobe, etc. But I was doing IT. I was living my dream!! I had finally accomplished this big thing I so eagerly waited for and dreamed of. Not to mention Hola TV is one of the most prestigious tv networks to be honored to work on (currently tooting my own horn for that).

I wanted to write this blogpost not to brag, but to show you guys that fulfilling your dreams IS possible. What you truly want to happen, will. Just have a clear vision, faith and take action. If you feel stuck, start by listening to and repeating out loud some positive affirmations from YouTube, read “self-help” or motivational books (helpful blogpost linked here), surround yourself with people who lift your spirits and have faith that anything is possible and that you are here for a reason. Until next time -I’ll be busy cooking up more dreams and manifesting my best life!
